New Hope Projects Heavenly Hogs for Hero's is Gaining Community Support
What is the Hogs 4 Heroes Mission?
“Hogs 4 Heroes” is a Mission to Help Fight the War on Hunger with Local Grown Protein Source that the community helps support its production, growth and the expenses incurred in bringing said protein source to the table of those in need
It is an opportunity to teach communities who have no clue where their food comes from what it takes physically, financially, and how long one has to work daily to meet the goal by allowing them to participate in a community service to help their own community members in need.
It is an opportunity for people to learn what it takes for ranchers and farmers to get your food to your table. It is farmers’ 3 years investment for hogs to get that first pound of bacon that you pick up in the store. It is a 4 years investment for ranchers’ to produce that pound of hamburger.
Fencing, Feeders, Troughs, Vet Care & Every Single Day Feed & Water no matter the weather or your family plans to care for those animals until they make processing weight.
Check out who has supported our first mission for local raised protein source to help fight the war on hunger and who Won the Raffle.
We hope to expand our current efforts of raising and feeding to freezer camp stage beef and pork to donate to the East Texas Veterans, their families and others who are food insecure.
At this time our First Mission is One hog a year that will be raffled to raise the overhead funds to feed out and pay a USDA processor so it can be donated legally. One hog a year will be donated to be distributed through a local organization. One hog a year will be donated to a ground zero location where first responders, line man from out of state rush in to help those affected by man made and natural disaster when victims lost it all. We hope it will help give the immediate essential need for food for those affected.
We want to Thank Loretta and her Congregation for the start up of Heavenly Hogs for Hero’s, Our New to the Area program, inspired and partial start up funds donated by appreciative congregation, of our Disaster Relief Efforts to save them and their families in Nebraska & North Caroline Disasters. Storm Survivors of Midwest Floods and Hurricane Michael paying it forward. With their blessing we have taken their one time contribution to East Texas when it was in need, and turned it into an annual gift that keeps giving, to help feed Our East Texas Veterans and others who are food insecure, with a locally grown protein source program.

Turning 5 months old Updates 5-6-2023
Trials & Tribulations~This is a pilot program meaning it’s a trial run first time done and will have growing pains for which we have come across more than a few. Let us first nip a few things in the bud. We are volunteer based and everyone is doing their best to try something new. It has been brought to our attention that information may not have been conveyed or when convoyed, the raffle purchaser may not have understood the item being raffled, was a live animal that is raised and fed out to an average age of 7 to 9 months to become approximately 300 to 350 pounds to processing weight.
We made public our plan with our first pumpkin donation Wallace Thompson’s for a newborn litter of hogs first all natural de worming at their 4 weeks of age shown in pictures above. At that age they are babies still also nursing on their mother for another 4 weeks before starting on full grain, hay and pasture to fatten up for processing.
This mission as it started – raise, grow out/ feed out (1) ONE hog until optimal processing rate 350# – 7 to 9 months old and have processed (1) One hog approximately 200 to 250 pounds of meat after processed to be distributed through a local org.
Challenge #1 Communication gap- for lack of understanding, our monthly attempts for 2 years while raising the parents of these hogs, now known as the grow outs, to get someone to work out the logistics of our donation, the topic never made it to the right party, the one who is in charge of handling the food distribution part of their programs. The offer was repeatedly dropped, admittedly ignored for lack of understanding how it could possibly work, making it impossible to even get an opportunity to explain how it actually can work out, with simple communication and cooperation.
Challenge #2 We learned of the red tape in donating All Raw meats which must be processed by a USDA certified processor for which our local processor evidently is not. Raw meat must stay a proper temperature at all times and that requires proper transport and storage.
Proposed Solution with what we learned- The owner of the hog can process themselves, or take to any processor they choose. However to Donate after processed it must be USDA processed so we chose to donate another hog- raffle it off with 2 draws of 2 sides of (1) one hog to raise the funds to finish feeding out the hogs, fuel for the bucket pickups and fund raise the processing fees for the original (1)One hog donation for the food insecure in the community-. (2) Two hogs were kept back and not sold for feed money to complete this mission.
Logistically this avenue may not be possible but we are still working on it. We have found the biggest resistance we see along the way is due to lack of knowledge or understanding of the process of growing and raising your own food. No one seems to know or understand what kind of time and effort one puts into the food they put in their body.
Challenge #3 preconceived notions that just because a raffle from someone else’s program in your past was held and a drawing was immediate and your prize was immediate does not mean that is how all raffles have to be handled. We have tried to make it clear on the web page, face book and at the point of selling every single raffle ticket, this missions raffle draw date was to be determined upon the hogs coming to processing weight and the processors calendar availability approximately 6 to 8 month of age and approximately #350 pounds to get the maximum amount of meat is approximately June /July for a December born hog.
There seem to be questions about when the raffle will be held. The hogs were 4 weeks old as shown in pictures above when we made our mission public and started selling raffle tickets for a grow out 6 to 8 month old 350 pound hog to be raffled in 2 draws one for each side once processing age. Raffle Date expected to be set upon hogs reaching within 50 pounds of optimal 350# weight and per the processors’ calendar availability. Well due to peer presure from the mean girl mofia of city slickers it did not go as planned. In an effort to shut down the scuttle but we will do the raffle draw 2 months earlier then we should have and we will continue to be honorable even as we get a bad rap from those who just dont understand what it takes.
We want to Continue to Thank those who continue to support our mission until its completed properly.
Huge Shout out of Thanks to Little Patch of Heaven Paints Our “June Sponsor of the Month” for contributing all the necesary overhead expenses, $2,500.00 worth of fuel, feed, other overhead as well as providing the fencing, housing and daily care of the hogs in the program prior to the first litter that is now mission #1 and continue to cover overhead thereafter until this mission is completed.
Thank you for supporting The New Hope Project!

Update 5-15-2023– We are excited to announce we have found a gracious recipient, who will accept our donation of a whole hog. They will prepare and serve the meat donated to those most in need. Raffle Draw for the second hog will be on July 4th 2023 and the processing date has been set for July 31st at Carnes Packaging. The 2 Raffle winners will need to coordinate and choose their own cut sheet and pay for their own processing. God Bless all of the people helping us help the community.
Update 8-7-2023
We would like to “Thank July & August Sponsor of the Month”, Waya A Way Farms. Owned and operated by Veteran & Gold Star Family Members, Michelle Harris and children. This lady and her surviving family are an excellent example of the successful concept we are trying to implement here in East Texas with The Pilot Program “The New Hope Project” Veterans’ Working Ranch and Farm to Fork for our veterans integrating back into civilian society, a heartwarming “Boots to Business (agricultural)” success with her “Waya Way Farms” out of Indian Mound Tennessee that continues to help her brothers and sisters who served. We Thank her and her family farm business for helping us with overhead expenses along the way, sending funds for feed to help in finishing of the “Hogs 4 Heroes” mission #1 and covering the expense of the emergency need for “Bravo 3 SAR Team alternator.” We couldn’t do what we do without Sponsors like this. May God bless her and her family tenfold for paying it forward for those in need. Heartfelt Thank You for all you and your families sacrifices for our country.
The Winners of the 1st Round/Mission of the Hogs 4 Heroes Raffle were drawn in July!
Time finally arrived folks. Congratulations to the Lucky Winners of the first “New Hope Project” “Hogs 4 Heroes Raffle! “ Both draws, each for one side of hog, where tickets purchased by an anonymous veteran who we just found out has chosen to pay it forward.
What that means is East Texas Sheltering Arms Coalition https://shelteringarmscoalition.com will have the original hog we planned to donate, as well as the second hog, both halves! Many are the Winners in this scenario! They will have 2 whole hogs they will prepare and serve at their newly built dining hall in Jacksonville Texas to help feed the veterans and others in need. God Bless You One and All for Participating in this 1st Mission! Due to the earlier than planned raffle date and excessive heat slowing the projected weight gain in this trial run all parties have opted to continue to feed out these 2 hogs until they meet the optimal goal weight#. We will update with photos when they head to processing, are prepared and served. Thank you for continuing to support our efforts on Mission #1
Please consider supporting Our next litter to be Mission #2 to be Raffled approximately April /May of 2024
